Paul Mawhinney has the biggest record collection in the world at over three million albums. The amazing thing is nobody wants it. With plaguing health problems he’s trying to sell. It’s been appraised for 50 million dollars. He’s selling it for three million and can’t find a buyer. If anybody wants to give Chasing Lions three million dollars we’ll buy it. Watch the movie below to see the archive for yourself.

Jon Savage is best known as the author of two excellent books on youth culture (last year's Teenage and the punk-history classic England's Dreaming), but he's also put together a handful of good compilation CDs (Queer Noises and England's Dreaming for Trikont) and is about to release another: Dreams Come True: Classic First Wave Electro: 1982-1987. The 12-inch mix of Yaz's "Situation" makes the cut, which alone gives Savage's comp an advantage over a number of other recent electro collections. [Fact [...]

Dropping a former coke addict into the midst of the Colombian drug trade for television purposes doesn't seem like the smartest idea. But BBC America has done exactly that, and not with just any former coke addict. It was Blur bassist Alex James, who "once bragged that he spent over a million pounds on cocaine at the height of his addiction," according to a press release. Not only did James return intact, but the resulting documentary, Cocaine Diaries: Alex James in [...]

Shuffle playlist stuff can be lame, but (surprise) Lou's well listened and has opinions. You'll learn a thing or two (and add some to your download queue) after parsing. Check it at A.V. Club.

My Old Kentucky Blog is stoked to join forces with our friends at Transmission Entertainment and other notable blogs and such to be a part of Fun Fun Fun Fest this year. Giving me an excuse to jump a flight to Austin, TX is never that tough, but getting me to do it when it isn't 108 degrees down there is liking taking candy from old people. I mean, you just gotta do it. Take candy from old people I mean.Novemember [...]

I've been pretty anxious to hear the album version of "House Jam," the first single from Gang Gang Dance's upcoming Saint Dymphna LP, since hearing what xxxchange did with the song a few weeks back. I mentioned then that this is what it might sound like if Timbaland produced the Knife, and I'm happy to report that the original is just as danceable (and immediately infectious and accessible) as xxxchange's banger. Download it over at fluxblog. And, in case you mixed [...]

Back in May we said Mux Mool's Night Court could be a hangover b-side from Daft Punk's Discovery (still stand by that); now he's wonder twin city powering with Big Quarters for a dope free EP worth your precious mouse clicks.Break out the janitor dust b/c the production is sick. Take the opener to "Ladies Know," which heats up with every rewind...Muxy tosses out a bumped-up disco sample, drops it into the 73-ton Prefuse compactor, and robotically lasers each part back [...]

The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that Chinese officials have closed access to Apple's iTunes Store after getting wind of Olympic athletes downloading Songs For Tibet, which features songs by the likes of Rush, Underworld, and Moby. (Proceeds go to "peace-related projects" that were hand-picked by the Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama.) The ban came shortly after the Art Of Peace Foundation, which backed the project, sent out a press release saying that "over 40" athletes participating in the 2008 [...]

In the spring of 2007, after Prinzhorn Dance School fell prey to visa troubles, LCD Soundsystem head honcho and DFA Records co-founder James Murphy invited Jona Bechtolt's YACHT to fill in the opening spot on the band's North American tour. It seems to have gone well. So well that on a day off in Portland, Bechtolt recorded "Summer Song," which he calls "a sort of love letter" to LCD Soundsystem. Originally, the song was posted for free download on YACHT's website. [...]

This fall, Dutch composer Stephen Emmer will be issuing his album Recitement. It's an unusual project packed with guest stars from across the musical and literary spectrum. Emmer takes an assortment of poems, stories, and the like, and sets readings-- some by their original authors, some by guests-- to original music. This track takes finds Lou Reed reciting a piece by Paul Theroux, set to score reminiscent of light cocktail jazz. The short film by director Paul Faas is a love [...]

(Thao and the Get Down Stay Down - "Swimming Pools")YouTube LinkEven though the name is Thao with the Get Down Stay Down, the backup band will be doing both the former and the latter when Thao Nguyen, formidable as a performer on her own terms, plays several solo shows in the fall as part of the Hotel Cafe Tour. First off, on the heels of the very-sudden, Radiohead-esque announcement that their third album, Intimacy, is out TOMORROW, Bloc Party put up a stream of a new song called "Trojan Horse". Listen to it at the band's MySpace page, or stream a copy of it above. Next up is TV on The Radio. Their new album arrives late [...]

As you can see with this week’s Graboid, there are a lot of great releases out there to spend your hard-earned cash on. Seriously, I don’t even know where to start with this list. A few releases that I can definitely recommend include Ra Ra Riot’s The Rhumb (really dig this one - so happy for these guys), Jaguar Love’s Take Me To The Sea, Lykke Li’s Youth Novels (finally gets its US release) and Stereolab’s Chemical Chords. I really [...]

Mr. Byrne's Everything That Happens... LP collab with Eno is rather great and all, but this one's about the legendary Head's other love (no, not that one or that one or that one). As you've probably seen if you live in NYC, the guy likes to bike. He also to park his bike. And he's proving it all with a series of bike racks of his design, strategically installed all over the city (shaped like a $ at Wall St., like [...]

Something that came up in the comments section of the post on that new TV On The Radio song (which you should really listen to if you haven't already): While the numbers would seem to indicate that many Idolator readers visit the site while they're bored at the office, a fair amount of people said that they don't listen to music at work, and that while they can read the site when they're on the clock, they tend to wait until [...]

What do you get when you combine Davis Guggenheim-- the director of Al Gore's conservation documentary An Inconvenient Truth and a director/producer for gruesome Western drama "Deadwood"-- with Jack White, Jimmy Page, and the Edge? Nope, not an after school special in which the three guitarists offer helpful tips on how to save the planet, and not a saloon fight scene in which the axemen use their guitars as axes...on each other. Actually, you get a pretty straightforward rock documentary called [...]

Members of the metal grotesquerie Slipknot are trying to distance themselves from a South African teenager who attacked four people at his school with a sword (!) while wearing a homemade version of one of the band's masks; one person died, while the other three sustained injuries. Perhaps unsurprisingly, a few members of the chattering classes over there are quick to blame the murders on the "Satanic music" the teen listened to in his out-of-school hours, and Slipknot is getting particular [...]
